“Assumption Church”

No religious edifice in Essex County has had a more enduring, or meaningful existence than Assumption Church, located on the grounds of the University of Windsor. The first Roman Catholic parish in Ontario, Assumption was created in 1767, one hundred years before Confederation. The construction of the present building was completed in 1845 and renovated in the early 1980s. Ronald Suchiu’s Assumption Church, complete with parish priests and parishioners, is a crisply detailed scene taken at the turn of the century.

One can’t help when viewing this scene to be reminded of a happier and simpler time in which the pace of life was slower, and the values of our society more meaningful. Once again in the Southland Series, Ronald Suchiu’s mind’s eye has captured a moment in time, which if not for him, we would never have seen again.
