“HARBOUR 1935”

This beautifully composed painting, in pleasantly muted colors, has several focal points and if one sat in front of it, many intriguing stories could be imagined. Very prominent is the massiveness of the artificial scenery brought on by man. The monstrous lake freighter, buildings so overpowering they seem to want to cover the sky, and yet the effect that nature gives: the atmosphere, the graceful waves, and reflections in the water, all seem to soften the otherwise steel and concrete setting.

Then we have the man, himself. The delicately feminine mother, the innocence of a small child, a friendly wave from a stranger on the tug.

Oddly enough, all these subjects adapt well together. In this ever-changing world of vast technology, man and nature are visible through it all.
