For about three decades I have produced “unique for the occasion” art pieces from which we produce limited edition prints. They are then offered as special gifts of appreciation to our collectors and anyone else who attends our largest yearly event RONSTOCK.

In general, I have always put an effort into making the image visually relative to our local area. Over many years I have produced pictures of local historic buildings and structures but for 2022 I decided to simply make up a scene that I knew everyone would relate to and enjoy. I wanted it to portray what it would be like to have a casual day of finding objects and stories that would induce a feeling of local nostalgia.
As in many of my creations I started with a story that I simply made up, one that would lead me down the path of creating something never seen before.
As I pondered what the painting’s subject would be I recalled how much so many of my collectors enjoyed the treasure hunt approach I took with my Canada 150th piece.

In my Canada painting I had scattered 150 historically relevant items throughout the image some being easy and obvious and others being much harder to find.
In having received so many high compliments on that painting for the experience it offered I chose to create the Barn Sale as a similar project.
In the actual image you see here, there are 100 individual items intentionally placed for you to discover. These are not only objects but also hidden in the piece are many names and even historic stories that are induced by clues that abound in the artwork.
When you are viewing this piece keep in mind that other than the made up barn and its furnishings, everything is there for a reason.
Now I challenge you to find all 100 things, but I will warn you in advance that a couple pieces of this puzzle are forensically extremely tricky and there are even a couple that have double meanings.
So, dig in, but don’t blame me if you dig so deep that you get hooked into the challenge and can’t get it out of your mind.
